Fortune seeking on the sea
Whaling, it's not a thing many people do anymore. But back in the day, when whale blubber was how the world got its lamplight, it was a popular profession for many sailors. This profession set the turbulent setting of Moby Dick and no wonder, it was a tough and dangerous job. There are still reality shows about fishing on the high seas but imagine trying to catch the largest animal on earth with nothing but harpoons from the flimsy surface of a wooden ship. Now, don't get us wrong. We're always rooting for the whales. But when it came to life on a whaling ship, you had to feel for the sailors that were just trying to get by.
This Harpoon is designed by our house designers. With the tip and the staff, it measures to be approximately sixty inches tall. It slides together in two pieces, making it easy to store when you're not using it. The tip has a mottled brass colored tip and a matching handgrip below. Hints of the bronze show throughout the staff. The bottom is rounded, making it a bit safer for your fellow sailors when you're hunting your prey.
Ready to set sail
So, whether you're dressing as the hero of Moby Dick or just a poor fisherman, this harpoon will be the crowning piece to your ensemble. It's going to be a long journey and it might be a long time before you catch the big one so make sure to pack a little hardtack!
